A Little Sparkle

Nick George is one of our artists. He drew this pencil drawing of the Lord Jesus Christ while serving a religious mission in Winnipeg, Canada in 1999. He was inspired from many different artistic renditions of the Savior, and decided to add his own style with the somewhat rough, uneven edges. He has had the prints since 2004 and never intended on selling them, but his family and friends have been so impressed with it that they all told him that he needed to...so here it is! We are so glad, Heidi (the boss) said how great it would be to have a picture of the Savior that isn't in every other home. Nick is giving away 2 of these prints! The first one will go to the first person to leave a comment, and everyone else who leaves a comment will be put into a drawing for the second one. The drawing will take place Thursday at midnight. Thanks, Nick!

Selling Unique Novelties

You can't sum up the purpose of Oh Sweet Sadie! better than that! Congratulations Liz- you are the winner of Mariposa Avenue's incredibly cool summer lantern. You can pick it up at either show, just introduce yourself at the register.

"He didn't tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it." Clarence Kelland

I don't know why I made up such an impossible contest to judge! My Tri-Life- you are the winner! I love the quote from your dad, "I can always replace a vehicle. I cannot replace a son." It makes me wonder why I freaked out when my son broke the banister. You can pick which Boot Scoot you would like and pick it up at either show!

Lunch? Playroom?

Custom Celebrations will be catering lunch this Friday and Saturday at Oh Sweet Sadie! So if you were going to stop by during your lunch hour, you needn't pick one or the other- you can have both! Yummy chicken salad on a huge croissant with fresh fruit and a homemade chocolate chip cookie- does it get any better? Bring the ladies along and make an afternoon of it.

But wait! You have pesky kids in tow? (Welcome to my world) Don't let that stop you- we have a dedicated playroom with kind, watchful supervision. You may shop in peace, while your children play in peace. Very zen.

Twilight Contest Winner

So, I plugged in 1-25 and the random number random.org came up with is 23! If you don't believe me, watch the video. So- Mariah, you are the winner! Email me and tell me which shirt you would like and I will set it aside for you to pick up at the show. Congratulations!

Boot Scoot Bikes

Before Chad and I had kids, we were at a park and we started talking to a gentleman who was there with his 6 children. He was telling us that someday when we teach our kids to ride a bike, the best way is to take the pedals off at the same time we take the training wheels off. It forces the child to learn to balance, and they can only go as fast as their little feet push them, and they can put those same little feet down and stop themselves from falling over!

Katie Stirling, founder of Boot Scoot Bikes, discovered the same thing in 2006 while on a vacation to Germany and Switzerland. While she and her husband and 1 year old were hiking in the Swiss Alps, a toddler zoomed past them on two wheels. She was amazed at the toddler’s ability and began asking his parents about his bike. To her surprise, she discovered that pedal-less “walking bikes” have been popular in Europe for several years. Upon returning home, she began searching for a similar bike for her son, but was shocked at the prices of the wooden European models. Unable to find exactly what she wanted at a reasonable price, (and this is the step only a rock star mother would take) decided to develop and manufacture a more cost-effective and durable bike, and now she is sharing them with us.

Boot Scoot Bikes are cute and extremely durable, making it possible to teach your child how to ride when he or she moves on to a traditional bicycle. Best of all, though, your child will gain confidence and agility while playing and exercising outdoors. My 3 year old tried one out at a local bike shop and I literally had to pry his hands off it. (I love those moments in public with a screaming, sobbing child.)

Boot Scoot Bikes is giving away a bike to one lucky winner! My memory of learning to ride a bike, reminds me about my dad- he was the one holding the seat and running behind me. We already asked for comments about our moms for Mother's Day, how about our dads for Father's Day? Tell us your favorite thing about your dad- make us laugh, or cry- make something up if you have to and you could win! Contest closes today at midnight!

Featured Etsy Seller- Mariposa Avenue! Times Up! Vote for your favorite.

One of Oh Sweet Sadie's own, Miss Lisa Furner, will be the featured seller on etsy today! Check out the main page at http://www.etsy.com/ and scroll towards the bottom and you should run right into her! (Should be up around 10:00am)

Lisa is what you might call a serial hobbyist. She says she is not completely sane unless she can make something with her hands. But the part she loves the most, the part she absolutely thrives on is learning a new craft. She has dabbled in photography, upholstery, jewelry, glasswork, all kinds of sewing, artwork, mobiles, etc. Her newest discovery is a bit of metallurgy, namely cutting these fabulous shadow lanterns. After a few seasons of developing her cutting skills and, at the same time, taking great care to not burn the house down, she opened a Etsy shop. The lanterns are a great project for her because they have endless possibilities. Each one is completely unique and all are cut freehand. They are all powder coated for durability in a variety of colors and textures.

To celebrate the amazing opportunity of being featured by etsy, Lisa is giving away a new summery lantern! It's made from a number ten recycled food can and powder coated a nice bright yellow. It's about 7 inches tall and 6 inches across. These can be used over tea lights or votives. They are great for disguising a sooty jar candle and can even dress up your citronella candle out on the porch. If you want to use them without a flame, you can use an LED push light disc or a short strand of Christmas lights. So many possibilities!

So ladies- who can come up with an acronym for SUN? The contest will be closed on Sunday, April 27th at midnight, and then you can all vote for your favorite!

{tatertot} hairclips- CONTEST! Time's Up!

This is Chelsea Horsley's little girl Tate, and the inspiration for {tatertot} hairclips. {tatertot} hairclips started last September when Tate had to wear a helmet to correct her head shape. The helmet was so plain Chelsea wanted to spice it up somehow. She didn't want anything permanent, because she wanted to be able to match it to her outfits, and she want something whimsical and eclectic, not cheesy or too sweet. So, she decided to make some wool felt flowers and attach them to the side of her helmet with velcro. It all took off from there! She had strangers asking where she got them, so she decided to start making them into hairclips for little girls. She has always been really into art and fashion, and now that she is stay at home mom she said, "it's been a greatly rewarding way to get my 'creative fix'!"

I love the bigger ones for the ladies as well. I think they are whimsical and eclectic, which is something I have always thought about myself as well. I would hate to be cheesy or too sweet.{tatertot} is giving away this spring bundle of her top 6 sellers to a lucky winner! I am thinking of a number between 1 and 100. The person who leaves a comment with the number closest (and telling us how dang cute they are)- WINS! This contest will close Friday, April 25th at midnight.

Fall Down Tree- Contest! Times Up!

We have some unbelievable children's artists in the lineup for the Spring shows! One of our new artists is Adam & Jill Record of Fall Down Tree. They recently started marketing children's wall art after searching for the perfect prints to adorn the wall of the first born's nursery. Jill begged her husband to draw something himself- since his favorite response to anything she showed him was, "I could totally make that". My husband does not say that when I show him stuff I like. He just says, "no."
There are many things to love about Fall Down Tree- I love the names and personalities they give all their characters, and the looming shadow of the wolf over Little Red (how clever!). But the best thing of all is they are generous! They are giving a print of your choice to the winner of today's contest. Everyone who leaves a comment about the uber coolness of their artwork will be entered and I will draw the name from a hat. or cup. or bowl. or something.
Contest closes Saturday, May 19th at midnight.

Studio Four- Fine Home Furnishings

A bit of a story with this one, so grab a drink and run to the bathroom first.

Once upon a time there was this girl I have kind of known for the last 28 years or sooo... alright it's my sister, Miki. Anyway, Miki bought this incredible buffet, that she used for a plasma stand so the 18 month old would keep her hands off, at a well know furniture store for over $1200.00.
This lady she has known for the past 5 years or so.... alright, alright, it's her mother-in-law, Sandi, loved it and wanted one just like it. Sandi, though, has had some experience in the wholesale/retail industry and thought she would hunt down the manufacturer of the buffet, with all her previous licensing and experience, to see if she could perhaps purchase it for less straight from the source. Guess what, oh you'll never guess...I'll tell you then- she could! She could purchase the buffet from Dovetail Furniture for significantly less then the furniture store was selling it for.

So Miki and Sandi decided everyone should have this opportunity. Hence, the birth of Studio Four Fine Home Furnishings. Here are some pictures of the many other things they will be selling at Oh Sweet Sadie!Studio Four sells:

* High quality, unique, solid wood furniture as seen at high end furniture stores, but for a fraction of the price.

* Prices include free delivery to your home in the Salt Lake Valley, $50 delivery fee for Davis & Utah Counties.

* They will have sample items at the boutique, i.e. table, chairs, plasma stand, and bedroom set.

Just to give you an idea of prices: Sideboard Hutch (Miki's) $899 & Plasma Stands $449-$529

And they (and you) lived happily ever after. THE END.

And the winner is...

Kara Jayne! Heidi and I loved that you started with "I only WISH I did more things like my mother!!" It was a good reminder about how great our moms truely are, and if we could only do half the amazing things they seem to do so effortlessly, we would be that much closer to being the mother we dream of being. (errrr- or our children dream of us being.)

Kara- email Janet your photo and you will be able to pick up your charm at either of the Oh Sweet Sadie! shows.

Jewel Kade Charms- Times Up!

Hold onto your hats ladies- the first contest may be our best yet! Shoot us a comment of the thing you do, that you're mother did, that you swore you would never do. Contest closes Wednesday, April 16th right before baseball practice (7:00 pm).

The winner will receive a Photo charm from Jewel Kade, Chains and Charms. It is a $35.oo value and the winner will need to e-mail the picture they want made into a charm and it will be ready for pick up at the show! If you don't win you can still send your picture to the amazingly talented Janet Kinkade, and she will have yours ready at the show as well.

Janet started selling her jewelry in November, but began the process of learning how to make it about a year ago. Her background is in retail and fashion merchandising, but she has always had a love for making jewelry. Janet loves the jewelry business because she can work at home and her business partners are her four daughters.

We love the fact that each of her charms are handmade and all different in their own way. Janet loves vintage art and colors, and likes to make jewelry that is personable and unique for the individual who gets to wear it. The Photo charms are our favorite because you know how much we love to show off our cute kids, and this is a perfect way to do it! (Great idea for your mom or grandma for Mother's Day...hint, hint.)

Our new friends, Rochelle & Amy

At our February show, Heidi and I were so fortunate to meet Rochelle Owens and Amy Jaten. They are such fans of the show- and huge supporters of local artists, rock star moms, creative women everywhere- they are hosting the upcoming Oh Sweet Sadie! Art & Gift Shows. They have helped us find 2 fabulous homes, the first with Desert Point Builders in Herriman, and the second with Rainey Homes in Suncrest. (maps and invitations are coming)

They completely support us and our artisans- and we support them in their efforts of making the purchasing and selling of a home a personal experience- listening to your needs when you are selling a house you have worked SO hard to make a home, and knowing that women are, and should be, extra picky in looking for the next house to make a home. Did I mention you get two dedicated Real Estate Agents for the price of one? You know from reading our blog about my own house for sale, the market is amazing right now, interest rates are at record lows, if you were waiting to find that home...now might be the time.

We can help you get started by looking at a couple gorgeous homes in beautiful communities. The May shows will out do any Oh Sweet Sadie! Art & Gift Show to date. We have more unbelievable vendors, and although both shows will boast some of the same, we will have new artisans at each. If you are interested in becoming a vendor, mail us the application found on the left side of our blog. If you want to be mailed an invitation- email your address to me.
