Back to School Contest

Sit up a little in your chairs- it is time for the first contest of the Oh Sweet Sadie! fall season! Can I quote a little Seriously So Blessed and say, "BAAAAAAAAA!" I decided to go with a little 'Back to School' theme for this contest. We have the greatest line up of artisans and vendors for these shows. I can't wait to introduce you to a few of them: First; the prizes, then; the contest.

1. What every school kid needs (or his/her mother) is one of these recycled notebooks ($10.00)from Joshua and Julielee Creations. Now, your child can be hip while totally diggin on Mother Earth.

2. A Scrap Happy Utah laminated fabric lunch sack ($7.00). Again, reusable so totally green. (Maybe I was going with a back to school slash I love the earth theme.) But again, we know garbage is totally uncool and NO ONE wants to do that to their child. Besides, these are super cute, and everyone knows a brown bag is only cute with pink polka dots.

Now, the contest. Anyone who leaves a post with their favorite 'school story' (It can your story or anyone else's you know. In fact, I don't care if you make it up.) will be entered into the drawing that will take place on Tuesday evening (9/9/08) about 9:00 pm. I will post the winner Wednesday morning along with the next contest.

I took my daughter late to her very first day of kindergarten.

Does the dream where you are at school without pants count as a school story?

so far the only thing I can remember is that my baby started pre-school two weeks ago and she loves it!! Where does the time go? They grow up so fast.

Talk about being too big for one's britches, my 4-year old just started his second year of preschool. As we were driving up to his teacher's house, he said, "You don't have to come in with me, Mom. (pause) Don't get out, Mom. Just drop me off here, ok? I don't want you to walk in with me. (what!?!) Don't get out, ok Mom?" Now, I believe there are certain pictures one MUST HAVE. High on the list being the "FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL PICTURE" . . . EVERY year, right??? So I had to chase him down, carry him back to the front of the house, and make him stand for three quick pictures . . . hopefully one of them will have him looking my way!!! Have a good day, sweetie!

I've got a great story. In 4th grade, I got to ride my pink banana seat bike to school. I told my friend Jackie that I'd give her a "pump." She was wearing pink wrangler jeans that day (gotta love Idaho). We were about half way to school and Jackie was riding behind me on the banana seat when I started having a hard time pedaling. I stood up on the pedals to try and keep us going, but it wasn't helping.

"It's getting harder to pedal!" I said. Then Jackie blurted out, "Oh no! My pants are stuck!" and sure enough, her pink wranglers were all twisted in the chain. I hopped off the bike and we tugged and pulled with all our 4th-grade strenth, but could not free her from the strong grip of the banana seat bike.

School was about to start and we were stuck on the sidewalk, unable to move since Jackie was hooked to the bike.So I did the only logical thing. I left her there and ran to school! I hurried and told my teacher that Jackie was stuck to the bike, sitting on the sidewalk about 2 blocks from school. (Poor Jackie!) So we called Jackie's mom and I ran back to tell her that help was on the way. Her mom brought a clean pair of pants and she had to change right there on the sidewalk, leaving the pink wranglers hooked to the bike!

HAHA! We still laugh-cry over this story every time we get together. :)

Here is one from when I was teaching school in Tonga....
It was the first week teaching some 6th graders in Tongan/English speaking school. I was having a somewhat difficult time understanding what they were saying. One day we were talking about things made by man versus things made by nature. I was having the students tell me different things that were made by mad. They started naming several things, when one boy raised his hand and said what I thought was, "earthquake." I asked him to repeat what he said, and he said, "earthquake" again. I started to gently explain that earthquakes were not in fact made by man, when another student loudly informed me we were actually experiencing an earthquake! I hadn't even noticed.

One day in 5th grade, I had been sent out in the hall so many times, that the last time, I just decided to leave school and walk home. I walked home, made a sandwich, didn't answer the phone (because I figured it was school), and then walked back. I was in a lot of trouble and I think they were surprised that I would just leave school on my own. Hopefully, my kids never will do that :).

In kindergarten my best friend Rene' and I road the bus together everyday. We loved to play those clapping games and we played them everyday until...Miss Merry Mack Mack Mack all dressed in black jammed her finger up Rene's nose and called the bus to a roaring stop to take care of the bloody mess that she had just caused. It wasn't my fault. We hit a bump in the road!
